The complex Interconnection of Individuals in our campus environment

In the totality of living organisms and their environment, it is clear that human beings are one of the most successful species ever to inhabit planet earth. Through their level of intelligence, communication skills, social innovation and creativity, no wonder biologists classify Homo sapiens as an higher animal. Yet our actions and impact towards the environment we live in, have put us and the rest of the living organisms on a dangerous path to the future.

On the 19th of May 2018, the Green Campus Initiative makes a history by officially establishing a branch in Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) where students from various faculties see the need to take actions in combating climate change through their innovative academic research, understanding how their field of discipline can help in achieving sustainable growth and development on their campus environment and beyond. Facing increased degradation of classroom properties, loss of agricultural values, improper disposal of the waste in campus environment and increasing effect of global warming sufficient to cause climate change.

The Green Campus ambassadors AAUA have come to understand the complex interconnections of individuals in their campus environment ranging from the school management, the teaching staff, non-teaching staff, entrepreneurs, visiting individuals and most importantly the students of the school. Believing that with the individual unique difference put together in the consciousness of having a green lifestyle in the campus community a sustainable goal can be achieved. Having a better citadel of learning for everyone and also creating a greater citadel of learning for the future generations.

Connecting science with social science, humanities and arts we discover that a green lifestyle on the campus environment can be achieved. Although the current state of Adekunle Ajasin waste disposal is bad, the situation is far from hopeless. Now is the time to “Be the movement, join the network of the Green Campus initiative and together as a team of sustainability we can do so much more to sustain life on earth".
