TEACHING PHILOSoPHY

DSC_7258+copy.jpg

Teaching encompasses every discipline of human living that has to do with relationship. It is an act of spiritual responsibility. Teaching is borne out of passion rather than the necessity to earn a living. It is not what you do, it is who you are.

Teaching doesn’t begin and end with you. It is a virtuous cycle of give and take. I have also endeavored during my academic adventures to make teaching more fun and less monotonous to my students. I have achieved this by successfully creating an ambience where there is no authoritative figure, where no one is an island or reservoir of knowledge. I have frequently encouraged my students and fellow teachers to brainstorm and ask questions. I often frown at popular teaching methodologies which hamper creativity and ingenuity.

Most importantly, enhancing teacher-student rapport has been one of my primary goals in teaching. I believe that when such relationship is established, it facilitates learning and makes teaching easier.

In making teaching fun and adventurous, I have sought innovative ways to create outdoor learning experiences that integrates our environment, nature and the planet. As a sustainability advocate, I strongly believe that educating students and teachers on the need to “go green” creates a ripple effect for future generations.

Finally, my teaching philosophy goes beyond the books. I strive to teach beyond academic curriculum to incorporate essential life lessons which would empower students and teachers to become ethical, eco-conscious and entrepreneurial leaders in whatever field they venture into.
