About the Book
Biological Sciences: A Concise Introduction is a basic qualitative explanation about life and the environment. The text explains life processes under the headings of animals, plants, and microorganisms. It is written for students of secondary schools, higher institutions of learning, and biological science teachers in an easy-to-read manner. It succinctly outlines the knowledge framework (for anyone curious enough to pick it up) in becoming adept in the biological sciences. The text is written comprehensively to integrate interactions between living and non-living components with their environment into a synergistic whole. Concepts such as ecology and genetics are introduced to provide readers a foundational knowledge to build upon. Human as an ecological factor is a timely discussion imminent in our 21st century and beyond, highlighting the impacts of human activities on the environment. These human activities resulted in specific issues of environmental concern: overpopulation, pollution, overexploitation of resources, and global warming. The heated debate of the benefits vis-à-vis the cost of science and technology has not dampened. The text strives to find common ground between the cost-benefit ratio of science and technology. The book closes by educating and orientating readers on Health, Diseases and Drug Abuse, aiming to draw the line between them. It is a must-read for all lovers of biological sciences. Get your mind prepared for an exploration.
“The book, Biological Sciences: A Concise Introduction is likened to a purple cow in an age of white cows. Its intrinsic standalone characteristic is tantamount to its qualitative prowess. In an age of information overload, readers go through the hassle of filtering various academic jargon before reaching a substantiated resource material. In the publicity noise of clamor and academic jamboree, Dr. Adenike Akinsemolu has tailored this text to meet every student of biology around the world. By applying various techniques of retention and memorization, the text is overlaid with short quizzes and exercises for revision, aiming to reinforce learning. Without a shadow of a doubt, this text is a must-have for every science student around the world. It deserves your attention, as it did mine.”
