Dr. Lisa-Marie Winnal

BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Lisa-Marie Winnall is a distinguished Associate Professor in Food Safety at the University of Birmingham, with a comprehensive background in both academia and industry. As a Chartered Environmental Health Practitioner (CEHP), she brings extensive experience from her work as a local government inspector, private sector auditor, and academic professional.

Her expertise encompasses a wide range of food safety topics, including food safety management systems, allergen management, food fraud, and food chain security. Lisa has a strong track record in both research and teaching, having supervised over 150 MSc and BSc research projects. Many of these projects have been conducted in collaboration with local government and the food industry, making her a vital link between academic research and practical application.

Lisa is actively involved with the Institute of Food Science and Technology and the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health. She has served as an academic stakeholder on several Food Standards Agency (FSA) committees, contributing to discussions on the Food Law Code of Practice and Practice Guidance. Her professional involvement extends to editorial duties as a member of the reviewers board for Sustain E Journal.

  • Member of the Healthy Food City Forum, where she supports research on Food Chain Security in Birmingham, with recent work linking FHSR scores to Lower Super Output Area (LSOA) ward deprivation indices.
