World Water Day, celebrated annually on March 22nd, is a global observance that highlights the importance of freshwater and advocates for the sustainable management of freshwater resources. The theme for World Water Day 2023 Panel Discussion is "Accelerating change to tackle the water crisis." This theme emphasizes the need to address the water and sanitation crisis by taking a gender-responsive approach, which aims to empower women and girls by increasing their participation in decision-making processes and addressing the gender-based barriers that limit their access to water and sanitation.
