Grant-making opportunities

1. Call for Applications, Fund for International Development, OPEC

To provide financial assistance to developing countries, particularly low-income countries, in support of their economic and social development efforts.

Funding information: amounts of up to USD 100,000, OPEC Fund's contribution to a stand-alone project should not exceed 50% of the total cost of the said project

2. EPIC announces Air Quality Fund

The Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago (EPIC) is currently accepting applications for the Air Quality Fund. The mission is to confront the global energy challenge by ensuring Energy Markets provide access to reliable, affordable energy needed for growth, while limiting emissions that cause Climate Change and damages to the Environment.

3. NEW Call for Applications: Regional study on Gender Norms and Education

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) is seeking applications from single organization or consortium to conduct research on trends around boys’ school dropout and declining enrolment across primary and junior secondary education in Tanzania and the broader East African region.

4. CFAs: The Exploration Fund Grant

The Explorers Club is seeking grant applications to support students and early career field scientists who are conducting fieldwork across a variety of disciplines. Provide background and state your project goals, methodologies, and intended outcomes, as well as the potential impact the project may have culturally, environmentally, or both.

5. Call for Proposals: Prepositioning Assistive Products for Humanitarian Emergencies

The ATscale Secretariat, hosted by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) in Geneva, Switzerland, invites interested and eligible non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and other non-profit organizations, as well as UN entities, to respond to a call for proposals for the grant project: ‘Prepositioning of assistive products for humanitarian emergencies’. The objective of the grant is to support the establishment of a stock of prepositioned assistive products.

6. Apply for Hyland R. Johns Grant Program

The Hyland R. Johns Grant Program funds longer-term research and technology transfer projects that have the potential to benefit the everyday work of arborists. Established in 1995 to honor one of the leaders in the arboriculture industry and a founder of the ISA Research Trust.

7. Jack Kimmel International Grant Program

The TREE Fund is seeking applications for its Jack Kimmel International Grant Program from arboriculture and urban forestry researchers all over the world. The Jack Kimmel International Grant Program, championed by the Canadian TREE Fund, honors the late Jack Kimmel who was the former Director of Parks for the City of Toronto. This grant is administered by TREE Fund, with participation from the Canadian TREE Fund in the evaluation process.

8. CFPs: Innovation & High Impact in addressing the most Burning Issues in Online Child Safety

Safe Online is excited to announce a new USD 5 Million Global Open Call for Proposals to continue laying the groundwork for a safe internet globally, in line with the latest data and evidence from the field, technology developments and relevant frameworks addressing digital harms to children. With this new Open Call, Safe Online will continue to invest in a ‘whole system’ approach for maximum impact by supporting the work across multiple sectors in a coordinated manner.

9. FIRE Free Inquiry Grant to Support Research on Free Speech

The Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE) is thrilled to announce that they are accepting proposals for the third cycle of their Free Inquiry Grant program, supporting research that advances the understanding of free speech and academic freedom. Since its founding more than two decades ago as the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education, FIRE has become the nation’s leading defender of fundamental rights on college campuses

10. OWSD-Elsevier Foundation Grant: Women Scientists in the Developing World

The Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) invites applications for the OWSD-Elsevier Foundation Grant for Early Career Women Scientists in the Developing World. Grants are given to women scientists who have made significant contributions in the area of inclusive health, whose research is linked to SDG3 (Good health and wellbeing).

11. Apply for What’s Possible Fund- Children's Rights Innovation Fund

The Children's Rights Innovation Fund (CRIF), in collaboration with its donor and youth collaborators, has launched a new funding opportunity called What’s Possible. CRIF invites youth activists to apply for the What’s Possible Fund aimed at supporting young activists, community workers, and organisers across many focus areas. This fund will offer grants to directly support young activists, community workers, and organizers across many focus areas-all with the aim of providing critical direct support to advance their continued safety.

12. Call for Proposals: STEG Small Research Grants

The Structural Transformation and Economic Growth (STEG) is currently inviting applications to the eighth call for proposals for Small Research Grants (SRGs). SRGs can fund research assistance, data collection and or purchase, and potentially research stipends teaching buyouts (if sufficiently justified). Grants also support travel to field sites, even when secondary data is utilized.

13. Applications open for Stephenson Advancement Grant

Applications are now open for Stephenson Explorers Advancement Grant to support exploration and field research for marine exploration and conservation projects. The Philip Stephenson Foundation promotes marine exploration, protection, and conservation projects focused on adding value to people’s lives and the health of the environment.

14. Fjallraven Field Grant Program

The Explorers Club and Swedish-based outdoor gear and clothing company, Fjällräven, have partnered to create a grant program to promote excellence in field exploration through scientific research. This grant award supports exploration and research to better understand the environment, a changing climate, and the interconnectivity of wildlife and civilizations around the planet.

15. Open Call for Rolex Club Grants Program

The Explorers Club is pleased to announce an open call for the Rolex Explorers Club Grants program. The Rolex Explorers Club Grants send extraordinary young explorers into the field and promote the significant role that exploration plays in addressing cutting-edge scientific questions, understanding the environment and the world they live in, and learning more about the history to protect the future.

The Fundación MAPFRE is pleased to announce the Ignacio H. de Larramendi Research Grants to promote projects carried out by individual researchers or research teams and whose object of study is related to health promotion or insurance and social protection.

17. World Childhood Foundation Grant Program

The World Childhood Foundation is inviting applications for its grant program to inspire, promote and develop solutions to end sexual abuse and exploitation against children. Project periods start from July 1 or January 1. The first grant period is maximum 12 months, with possibilities to apply for continuation and extend the project period up to a maximum of six years

18. Request for Applications: Darwin Initiative Innovation Grants

The Darwin Initiative Innovation invites applications to evaluate a novel approach that, if proven by evaluation activities, could scale to deliver results for biodiversity conservation and multidimensional poverty reduction. Projects should last for between 1 to 2 years maximum, starting on or after 1 April 2025.

19. Applications open for USAID Development Innovation Ventures (DIV) Program

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) is inviting applications for the Development Innovation Ventures (DIV) program. Through a year-round grant competition, Development Innovation Ventures (DIV) sources proposals for innovations that address international development challenges and improve the lives of people living in poverty in developing countries around the world. DIV provides tiered funding to pilot, test, and transition to scale (i.e., grow to reach the highest number of beneficiaries possible) those innovations that demonstrate evidence of impact, cost-effectiveness, and the potential to scale.

20. Call for Proposals: Eurofins Foundation Project Grant 2024

The Eurofins Foundation is seeking applications for grant opportunity for projects that contribute to global health and safety and protecting the environment. The objective of the Eurofins Foundation are to support initiatives, across different fields, which share these same goals. The foundation supports initiatives aiming at protecting the environment, improving nutrition and health, helping nonprofits and social businesses working in the fields of environment or health protection and nutrition improvement, promoting inclusion, diversity and equality and all levels of society

21. NEW CFPs: DUT Program for Sustainable Urban Transitions

The Driving Urban Transitions is accepting grant proposals to support transnational research and/or innovation projects addressing urban challenges to help cities in their transition towards a more sustainable economy and functioning. The program focus on urban areas, in the context of achieving climate neutral and sustainable cities projects are expected to be focused on urban areas (including peri-urban areas) and their issues and challenges. Where appropriate, they may also consider the effects and impact on other territories like rural areas or consider urban-rural relationships.

22. Pairi Daiza Foundation Grant for Biodiversity and Conservation Research

The Pairi Daiza Foundation was created from the desire to draw attention to the value of biodiversity, to create a stronger bond with nature, and to create a lasting commitment to its conservation. Pairi Daiza Foundation provides opportunities to Researchers via project funding or sampling agreements. Pairi Daiza Park belongs to the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA) and the Pairi Daiza Foundation is a member of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

23. The Conservation, Food and Health Foundation Grant

The Conservation, Food and Health Foundation is seeking applications to protect the environment, improve food production, and promote public health in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Latin America, and the Middle East. The Nature Forward is providing Crowder Messersmith Conservation Grant Program to help small, local conservation and education projects in developing countries by providing seed money to communities and individuals whose projects have not attracted major support from other sources.

25. Open Call for Smurfit Kappa Foundation Grant Program (see link for eligible countries)

29. Call for Applications: Time Land Purchase Grant Program

Are you a conservation NGO looking to protect biodiversity in your area? This is My Earth (TiME) is excited to offer grants to help local organizations purchase and protect land for the benefit of all species, now and in the future. TiME’s Grant Program offers funding for the purchase of land that will be permanently protected, owned, and managed by local partner organizations. To be eligible for the program, the land should be of significant importance for biodiversity conservation and under the threat of destruction or degradation. This unique opportunity is open to conservation organizations worldwide that wish to purchase biodiverse lands for their long-term protection.

30. Call for Proposals: Innovating for Climate Resilience Fund

The Global Innovation Fund (GIF) has launched its Innovating for Climate Resilience fund in partnership with the Adaptation Research Alliance and the Global Resilience Partnership, with seed funding from the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office. The Innovating for Climate Resilience fund invests, through grant, equity, and debt instruments, in innovations with the potential to scale and support the world’s poorest to build resilience and adaptation.

The Waitt Foundation is seeking applications for its Rapid Ocean Conservation (ROC) Grants Program. ROC Grants provide small grants with a quick turnaround time for solutions to emerging conservation issues and ocean protection. This complements the Waitt Foundation’s existing major grants program and is responsive to conservation opportunities, supports higher-risk ideas at a low financial cost, and engages with small, local NGOs on a global scale.
