On March 12, 2026, the Officially Green Fellowship Program hosted a mentorship session with Odunayo Aliu, Founder of Bramble Network, on the theme “Educating for Climate Action.”
Drawing from her experience in education and community development, Aliu encouraged Green Fellows to see themselves as transformational leaders capable of creating change regardless of age, position, or location. She emphasized self-awareness, proactiveness, humility, purpose, and the ability to engage others as important qualities for young changemakers.
A major focus of the session was moving from awareness to action. Fellows were encouraged to identify climate and environmental challenges as they are experienced within their own communities, listen to community members to understand root causes, and begin with small, practical solutions that can be tested and improved over time.
Aliu also stressed the importance of community ownership and collaboration. Whether addressing waste management, flooding, tree loss, education, or other sustainability challenges, solutions are more likely to succeed when communities are actively involved and when young leaders work with local stakeholders, organizations, and government institutions.
The interactive discussion also addressed persistence in changemaking. Fellows were reminded that meaningful transformation takes time and requires patience, a strong sense of purpose, supportive networks, and consistent action.
The session reinforced a central message: effective climate leadership goes beyond awareness—it requires sustained action that improves people’s lives while protecting the environment.
